FAQ

The basics

Who owns New York Personal Training?

NYCPT is independently owned by its co-founders, trainers Guychard Codio and Reggie Chambers. It has no private-equity, franchise or corporate investors. The people who own the studio still coach on its floor.

Where is the studio?

138 5th Ave, 2nd Floor, New York, NY 10011, in Flatiron — a short walk from Union Square, NoMad, Chelsea and Gramercy. Check in at the front desk on the 2nd floor.

What are your hours?

Monday to Friday 6am–10pm, Saturday and Sunday 7am–8pm.

How much does personal training cost?

New clients start with two private sessions for $150. After that, single sessions are $150, and packs bring the price down to $127 (12 sessions), $122 (25) or $118 (40) per session. All packs are valid for 12 months, with no membership or contract.

What happens in my first session?

It's 55 minutes: 10 minutes talking through your goals, schedule and injury history; 15 minutes of movement screening and an InBody 570 body-composition scan; 25 minutes of training scaled to you; and 5 minutes to plan how often to train and what to focus on.

What should I bring?

Workout clothes and sneakers. We have everything else. Arrive 10 minutes early and check in at the front desk.

Is NYCPT good for beginners or older adults?

Yes. Our trainers coach clients from age 10 to 86, and many of our longest-standing members started in their 50s and 60s. Every program is scaled to your health history and goals.

Is personal training covered by insurance, HSA or FSA?

Sometimes. Training prescribed by a healthcare provider to treat a specific medical condition may qualify as a medical expense, and some HSA/FSA plans reimburse it with a letter of medical necessity. We can provide itemized receipts.

What are the house rules?

Check in at the front desk before every session, keep phone use and filming considerate (no one in your footage without consent), no gum, treat equipment with care, stay fully dressed in common areas, wear proper footwear, and respect the space, members and staff.

FAQ

Personal Training

Can I try a session first?

Yes. New clients start with two private sessions for $150. Session one is a 55-minute assessment and workout; session two puts your plan to work. There's no obligation to continue.

Will I have my own trainer?

Yes, and you choose who. If your trainer is sick or on vacation, we'll set you up with a substitute who has your plan.

Do I need a gym membership?

No. You pay for sessions in packs that are valid for 12 months. There is no membership, contract or cancellation fee.

Is personal training tax deductible or covered by insurance?

Sometimes. Training prescribed by a healthcare provider to treat a specific condition may qualify as a medical expense, and some HSA/FSA plans reimburse it with a letter of medical necessity. Ask us for an itemized receipt.

FAQ

Strength & Longevity (50+)

Am I too old to start strength training?

No. Strength, balance and muscle respond to training at every age. We've coached clients into their late eighties, starting from wherever they are.

Is it safe with arthritis or osteoporosis?

With the right progressions, yes — and often it helps. We scale every exercise to your joints and bone density, and we're glad to work alongside your doctor or physical therapist.

How often should I train?

Two sessions a week is the sweet spot for most people. Your trainer may add simple at-home work for balance and mobility between sessions.

FAQ

Corrective Exercise & Post-Rehab

Is corrective exercise the same as physical therapy?

No. Physical therapists diagnose and treat injuries. Corrective exercise specialists retrain movement and strength — often after PT, or alongside it with your therapist's blessing.

How long until I notice a difference?

Most people feel better posture and less stiffness within a few weeks of consistent training. Lasting change takes a few months.

FAQ

Myofascial Stretch Therapy

Do I need to be flexible?

Not at all. The class is designed for people who are stiff. Every stretch is scaled to you.

Can I book through ClassPass?

Yes, stretch classes are listed on ClassPass under New York Personal Training.

FAQ

Reformer Pilates

Is Reformer Pilates good for beginners?

Yes. The springs make it easy to scale, and small classes mean the instructor can coach your form.

Can I do Pilates while pregnant?

Often, yes, with modifications. Our Pilates lead is a pre/postnatal exercise specialist. Check with your doctor first.

FAQ

Barre

Do I need dance experience?

No. Barre is designed for non-dancers. Every movement can be scaled.

FAQ

Yoga & Mindfulness

Is private yoga available?

Yes. Call or message us to schedule private or semi-private sessions.

FAQ

Massage Therapy

Do I need to be a training client to book a massage?

No. Massage is open to everyone, though it pairs especially well with a training program.

Which massage should I choose?

Book a free 15-minute consultation and we'll recommend a type and length for your goals.

FAQ

Red Light Therapy

Is red light therapy safe?

It's non-invasive and generally well tolerated. If you're pregnant, photosensitive or on photosensitizing medication, check with your doctor first.

FAQ

Pre & Postnatal Training

When can I start after giving birth?

Usually once your doctor clears you, often around six weeks. We start with breathing, core and pelvic-floor work and progress from there.

FAQ

Running & AlterG Anti-Gravity Treadmill

Can I use the AlterG without a trainer?
